What makes Gorsemoor Cubs great?
There is so much more to being a Cub than wearing a uniform! At Gorsemoor we get up to all sorts of activities and new adventures.
Its action packed
Cubs get chance to do lots of different adventurous activities. These can be things like climbing, zorbing, rafting and archery. There are no two events the same.
Going outdoors
We promote getting out and about wherever possible. Cubs get to not only do practical activities outside like camping but also get to play and get dirty!
Learning new skills
Cubs get to learn lots of exciting things. This can be starting fires and cooking on them, navigating their own way outdoors, building their own shelters, etc.
Exploring the wilderness
We not only go out in our local area but sometimes further afield to learn and explore. They get closer to nature, learn to deal with the elements, have fun and discover new things.
Making new friends
Often activities are structured so Cubs work in teams and solve challenges together. They form strong friendships with others from different schools or backgrounds. They often get to learn from, and bring out the best in, each other.
Being successful
Our Cubs have a great track record of achievement. Many go on to complete the Chief Scout’s Silver Award. Many years we are successful in District/County competitions.
Night activities
The darkness doesn’t stop the Cubs from having fun. They go camping, play games outdoors called ‘wide games’ and learn to find their way in the dark.
Becoming independent
At Gorsemoor, we help our Cubs become more self-sufficient. They have fun away from home, build their social confidence, learn how to cook and look after themselves.
Most importantly, we have fun!
Wherever we go and whatever we do, we try to make everything fun. Cubs still learn a great deal but it isn’t like school.
About Longham Cub Scouts
Who are theY?
They are girls and boys aged 8 to 10½ years old from Ferndown, Parley, Heatherlands, Longham and surrounding areas.
When do they meet?
Our Cubs meet on Tuesdays (6:15 to 7:45pm).
What are Cubs?
Cubs began in 1916, and follows on from Beavers. Both boys and girls can join around their 8th birthday. They ‘move-up’ to the Scout section prior to their 11th birthday.
How much does it cost?
Leaders give their time voluntarily. The only mandatory payment is a termly subscription fee to cover things like equipment and insurance. This is generally lower than the price of many other clubs or groups. Some of the optional adventurous activities can incur additional cost.
